MBC audition finale "Winners" is drawing attention by previewing a harsh and fierce competition format never seen anywhere.
The new MBC variety show "Winners," which premieres on the 15th, is an audition finale where final winners of historic music auditions that shook Korea gather to compete for the true throne. Actor Rhee Minjung and Boom will join forces as MCs, and the program's core, a shocking competition rule, has been revealed, heightening the tension.
The most distinctive feature of "Winners" is the studio layout. The stage is designed so that the singer faces the other first-place singers head-on. After finishing their song, participants sit in the seats prepared in front of the stage and then watch the competitors' performances. The next performer must continue singing while receiving the full gaze of the rivals who just finished the stage. The competition format, which required contestants to prove their skills in front of rivals and was unseen anywhere else, was reportedly so harsh that even Veteran first-place singers' hands holding the microphone trembled.
In addition, the system that reveals scores and rankings in real time after each performance raises the venue's excitement to a peak. In the brutal race of stealing and losing the top spot, the singers' real expressions as they watch their rankings change in real time made even viewers hold their breath and created tension.
The competition system also completely broke the mold of existing auditions. "Winners" aims for a "judgeless competition" where the winner is decided solely by votes from an audience evaluation panel at the venue instead of judges with absolute authority.
