Veteran actor Kim Byeong Sae, 64, was belatedly found to be living in the United States after marrying a Korean entrepreneur 15 years younger.
Kim Byeong Sae recently shared an update after a long time through a video posted on the YouTube channel "Byeongsae World," opening up about how he settled in the United States and the path that led to marriage. He particularly picked 2018 as "the year when the flow of my life changed dramatically."
According to Kim Byeong Sae, in April 2018, his mother in the United States passed away suddenly, but he could not attend the funeral at the time due to a drama filming schedule. After finishing the project, in October of the same year, he visited the United States to go to where his mother rests, and in that process, at a friend's suggestion, he went on a blind date and said he met his current wife for the first time.
Recalling that time, he said, "After finishing the meal, I joked, 'I won't get married unless someone sets me up,' and the next day I actually got a call," adding, "I was about to return home, but I agreed to meet, thinking I should at least meet without being rude." Kim Byeong Sae, who said the other person made an unusual impression from the first meeting, also added, "It felt as if there was a halo in her eyes. There was something like an intuition that's hard to explain."
Kim Byeong Sae explained that even after returning to Korea, the person stayed on his mind, so he soon went back to the United States, and their relationship deepened quickly at the second meeting. He proposed about 90 days after they met, and said they officially became a married couple in 2019.
On why he moved his residence to the United States, he said, "I was firm in thinking that if it wasn't this person, I wouldn't get married. My wife's schedule is relatively fixed due to the nature of her business, while my work, such as filming, is irregular, so I settled in the United States to align our living base." He said he has now obtained permanent residency in the United States and is expanding his possibilities as an actor by auditioning locally. However, he added, "If I get a chance to act again in Korea at any time, I would be grateful to take it, but I don't feel pressured. If there is an opportunity in Korea, I think I can do it again."
Born in 1962, Kim Byeong Sae debuted with the 1993 film "Western Boulevard" and has made his presence felt in dramas such as "Hur Jun," "Empress Myeongseong," "All In," and "Dr. Jin."
