Late actor Ahn Sung-ki's son, Ahn Da-bin, expressed longing for his father, delivering a poignant resonance.
On the 10th, Ahn Da-bin announced the news of his solo exhibition on his social media and left the message, "Dad. This has become the only solo exhibition I couldn't share the news of with you." The calm sentence fully conveyed the deep sense of loss of a child who had seen his father go.
He went on to add, "I think I have come to understand a little how to paint from the heart. The words you used to tell me are only reaching me now. Thank you, dad. I will continue to work silently going forward," conveying his resolve as an artist and his affection for his father.
The released photos included views of the exhibition hall and Ahn Da-bin standing in front of his work. In particular, a photo taken next to the work titled 'Unti_x_tled (Dad)' drew attention. He also added an explanation of the work himself.
Ahn Da-bin said, "At first, I planned to add more still lifes to the middle of this painting and add a pair of candles in the center. This was meant to reflect my work 'Repose,'" and "Just as I was about to start this additional layer work, I got a call from my younger sibling and had to take the next flight to Seoul to be with our father in his last moments."
He went on to explain, "I have been preparing this exhibition since last summer with my father, who had been ill since 2019, in mind," saying that this solo exhibition is the result of a long accumulation of feeling toward his father, beyond a simple show.
Ahn Da-bin, the eldest son of Ahn Sung-ki, is active as a painter and installation artist. Although he walks a different path from his father, who devoted his life to the screen and stage as an actor, it suggests that they were deeply connected by the common language of art.
