TV CHOSUN 'The Joseon romantic' reported on Taejin-ah's update about his wife Ok-gyeong, who has been diagnosed with severe dementia, revealing a deepening sense of loss and sorrow as time passes.
Earlier, Taejin-ah said on last Sept.'s TV CHOSUN 'Gourmet Heo Yeong-man's table' that "my wife has been suffering from dementia for six years" and "perhaps thanks to the support around us, the illness seems to have stopped progressing."
At the time, he showed his daily life of putting his photos around the house and not letting go of his wife's hand all day, trying not to give up hope.
However, the reality shown in the trailer for TV CHOSUN 'The Joseon romantic,' released about five months later, was more brutal. According to the producers, Ok-gyeong has now reached a stage of severe dementia, making even meaningful communication difficult. As time passed, his wife's memories were fading more rapidly.
Taejin-ah chose "reminiscence therapy" as a last hope. The preview video showed them arriving at New York airport and visiting the apartment where the two lived together when they were young and the places where they built memories while running businesses. It was driven by a desperate hope that even happy memories from the past might be recalled.
But that earnestness finally burst into tears. Standing in front of the camera, Taejin-ah could not control his emotions, leaving only the words "please make Ok-gyeong get better," and that cry made viewers solemn.
When the trailer was released, netizens expressed sadness and sympathy, saying, "The process of losing a loved one is too cruel," "Seeing him do everything he can as a husband makes it even more painful," and "We can only hope for a miracle."
The story will be revealed through the Seollal special of 'The Joseon romantic,' which airs on the 16th.
