Hollywood actress the late Catherine O'Hara's cause of death has been released.
On the 9th (local time), TMZ, citing a death certificate issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, reported that O'Hara's immediate cause of death was pulmonary embolism and the underlying condition was rectal cancer.
According to the report, O'Hara was cremated, and the remains were handed over to her husband, production designer Bo Welch.
O'Hara collapsed at her Los Angeles home on Jan. 30 and was taken to a hospital, where she died. She was 71. At the time, her agency CAA only said she died after a short illness, without disclosing the specific disease.
The Los Angeles Fire Department, which responded after receiving a report at about 4:48 a.m. on the day of her death, said it transported O'Hara to the hospital in critical condition.
O'Hara was also known to have a rare congenital condition called situs inversus, in which the arrangement of internal organs is a mirror image of the normal left-right orientation. It is generally harmless but can make diagnosis difficult because symptoms appear in different locations.
Foreign media reported that O'Hara had not shared details of her illness even with close acquaintances while alive. One source said O'Hara may have been somewhat aware of the situation, but many did not know until the end, and that people were deeply shocked by the sudden news.
She was beloved worldwide for films such as Beetlejuice, the Home Alone series, and the drama Schitt's Creek. She continued to work recently on projects including The Last of Us and The Studio.
She leaves behind two sons, Matthew and Luke, with her husband Bo Welch, whom she married in 1992,
