Group Epik High member Tablo's daughter Haru's fluent English skills are drawing attention once again.
Recently, a video titled 'I tell the story of a stalker entering Two-Cut's house ft. Western-style pork cutlet' was released on the YouTube channel 'Epik High.' In the video, Tablo and Two-Cut continued a generational gap talk as they discussed expressions used by today's generation.
When Tablo asked, "Don't people say things like 'that's cool' or 'he had presence' anymore?" Two-Cut replied, "Isn't that a 40s expression?" and Tablo recalled, "We used to say things like 'cap,' 'jjang,' 'ganji,' 'pose,'" which made Two-Cut add, "Before that there was 'ddabong' too," prompting laughter.
The conversation naturally moved to English expressions. Tablo said, "People don't use 'Swag' in English anymore, do they? It's similar to us saying 'ddabong,'" and Two-Cut asked, "Then don't people these days use 'Lit'?" As the staff murmured, Tablo said, "For these things, ask Haru and she'll know right away. Catchphrases change every one to two weeks," and called his daughter.
When Haru answered the phone, her natural and clear English pronunciation drew attention. When Tablo asked, "What do you say in English these days for words like 'jjang' or 'that's cool'?" Haru replied, "'That's awesome' is used the most. People don't really use 'Swag' much anymore."
On whether 'Lit' is used, she added, "Some people use it sometimes, but personally I don't really say 'Oh, that's lit.'" She then explained with a laugh, "Using that expression doesn't make it uncool." Haru summarized, "These days, rather than one specific word becoming hugely popular, expressions like 'That's awesome' or 'great' are used most often."
After the video was released, netizens poured out reactions such as "Haru's English tone is totally native," "I thought an ESL teacher was speaking," "Haru's English pronunciation feels like an older foreign sister," "Where did baby Haru go?" and "Auntie had a heart flutter."
Meanwhile, Tablo married actress Kang Hye-jung in 2009, and the following year they had a daughter, Haru. The father and daughter later appeared on KBS 2TV's The Return of SUPERMAN in 2013 and received much love, and the current status of the now-grown Haru is once again drawing attention.
