Actress Seon Woo Yong-yeo candidly revealed why she suddenly chose to go to the United States and about her life there.
On the 7th, the YouTube channel 'Knowledge Inside' released a video titled "You can tell at a glance: how a 60-year veteran actress sees through people." In the video that day, Seon Woo Yong-yeo appeared as a guest and calmly recounted moments that became turning points in her life.
In the broadcast that day, Seon Woo Yong-yeo cited a remark from her daughter as the trigger for deciding to go to the United States. She recalled, "My daughter asked, 'Why is the neighbor's mother at home?' and it really jolted me," and added, "I thought, 'This isn't it.'" She continued, "My siblings were all abroad, and we had the house somewhat prepared, so I decided to go to the United States," saying she asked to withdraw from the two dramas she was appearing in at the time and took a year to prepare.
Seon Woo Yong-yeo said, "I didn't go with the goal of studying like these days; I left because I wanted to spend time with my children," and "I had no plan to send them to any particular school." After arriving in the United States, she bought a sewing factory and ran it for a year but closed it after difficulties, and later opened a restaurant which she ran for five years. She added, "It was hard, but business wasn't failing."
After graduating from beauty school and getting a job, Seon Woo Yong-yeo received an unexpected offer to return to acting. She said, "About 20 days after I started working at the hair salon, a producer in Seoul called," and "I was offered a role in a one-year drama 'History flows.'" She explained that at the time her daughter was a college freshman and her son was a third-year high school student.
Seon Woo Yong-yeo said, "In the past I thought acting was simply crying when sad and laughing when happy," and confessed, "But running the restaurant and directly experiencing people's joys and sorrows completely changed my thoughts about acting." She added, "I learned that there are many kinds of laughter and tears," and recounted an anecdote about how she confidently insisted on conditions for appearing based on that experience.
She added, "When I said I was going to Seoul, I felt a little sad because the children seemed happy," and "Since returning in 1989 I have worked without taking a break."
Meanwhile, Seon Woo Yong-yeo was born in 1945 and is 80 this year. She has acted as both an actress and a former businessperson across sitcoms and variety shows, and recently continues active communication through the YouTube channel 'Sunpung Seon Woo Yong-yeo'.<
