'Hangout With Yoo' Ju Woo-jae defeated chef Jang Ho-joon in a cooking contest.
On the afternoon of the 7th, the MBC variety show 'Hangout With Yoo?' aired the "It's dangerous outside the blanket" episode.
That day Yu Jae-seok, Kim Kwang-kyu, HaHa, Heo Kyunghwan and Ju Woo-jae enjoyed a warm rest time amid a cold wave of minus 13 degrees. Production staff said that friends from Heo Kyunghwan's hometown of Tongyeong gifted fresh ingredients, and that a chef acquaintance of Heo Kyunghwan would come to cook, drawing attention.
Heo Kyunghwan boasted, "My friends in the countryside send a lot of ingredients. Friends in Tongyeong teamed up and just sent up a lot. They loaded so much that the front wheels lifted," prompting laughter.
After moving to a warm interior, the members suggested making a bet when they heard the chef's preparations were delayed. Yu Jae-seok said he had seen an experiment on YouTube about whether ordering delivery or going to the store is faster and was curious. The members then said they should actually test it and made a bet using the staff's meal money.
Yu Jae-seok, Kim Kwang-kyu and HaHa chose to go to the restaurant, while Ju Woo-jae and Heo Kyunghwan chose delivery. They agreed on jajangmyeon, jjambbong and tangsuyuk as the menu; the members who chose the restaurant had to eat all the food at the restaurant and then return to the pension, and the delivery team had to finish all the delivered food.
The restaurant team quickly got in the car but wasted time by not looking carefully at the navigation, while the delivery team quickly placed their orders but got caught in lunch hour traffic and delivery took longer. The members who entered the restaurant confirmed the delivery had not yet departed and started eating quickly.
Ju Woo-jae and Heo Kyunghwan became anxious when they confirmed the delivery was coming by car rather than motorcycle. Finally the food arrived and they began eating eagerly with one staff member. The restaurant team ate quickly and returned to the pension, and despite the staff's energetic efforts the light eater Ju Woo-jae could not swallow all the food and lost the bet. In the end Ju Woo-jae paid for the meals of 50 staff members with his personal card.
Next, a chef who was said to be an acquaintance of Heo Kyunghwan appeared, and the chef's identity was revealed to be chef Jang Ho-joon, who appeared on "Culinary Class Wars." Heo Kyunghwan explained the connection with Jang Ho-joon, "We are high school senior and junior. He's a younger friend's friend."
That day Ju Woo-jae, curious about how much difference there would be if an ordinary person followed exactly what a chef did, proposed a contest with chef Jang Ho-joon. Jang Ho-joon expressed confidence, saying, "Even if you give the recipe to 100 people, the taste will all be different."
First, chef Jang Ho-joon presented grilled yellowtail, sea eel tempura bowl and steamed scallops in succession, and the members praised the taste. Finally Chef Jang and Ju Woo-jae faced off with water-poacher stew, and Ju Woo-jae imitated even the number of times the ladle was stirred next to Chef Jang.
After the dishes were completed, the members, blindfolded like on "Culinary Class Wars," tasted food fed to them and tried to guess who made each dish.
After tasting one spoonful of each dish, the members said, "There are differences but it's confusing. They're all delicious," and found it difficult; option 1 received three votes and option 2 received one vote. The owner of dish 1 was Ju Woo-jae, and everyone was surprised by the twist. The only person who chose option 2, Heo Kyunghwan, explained, "It has a texture I've eaten before."
Chef Jang Ho-joon praised Ju Woo-jae, saying, "He imitated me very well from beside me," and Ju Woo-jae said, "From TV you might not be able to follow, but watching beside you you can reproduce it to some extent."
