SBS knowledge and health variety show "Three perspectives" reveals the truth about "brain cells," cells made at birth that accompany us for life, and the secret of energy that turns back the clock of aging.
The episode airing on the 8th (Sunday) at 8:35 a.m. on SBS "Three perspectives" digs into the secret of "cellular rejuvenation," which moves us away from aging and disease, from three viewpoints: history, science and medicine, with MC Kim Seok-hoon and So Seul-ji, science writer Kwak Jae-sik, docent Rhee Chang-yong, gastroenterologist Kim Bo-min, and family medicine specialist Seo Myung-won.
The smallest units that make up our bodies, "cells," are mostly replaced with new ones over time, but brain cells are different. They are made at birth and must be used almost unchanged for nearly a lifetime. The brain, an irreplaceable organ, is the body's control tower that thinks, moves and regulates emotions. The problem is that brain cells active in this precious brain are increasingly occupied by "zombie cells" as they age.
MC Kim Seok-hoon directly faces the reality of zombie cells while conducting experiments prepared in the studio that day. Watching the various diseases caused by zombie cells, he said, "Lately my memory and stamina aren't what they used to be. I definitely feel my body has changed," revealing candid anxiety about aging.
Gastroenterologist Kim Bo-min warned, "If your body isn't what it used to be, it's already evidence that zombie cells have invaded your organs and brain." She added that "to protect brain cells from zombie cells and allow new cells to function properly, an environment that supplies cellular energy is needed," and explained that supplementing NMN, related to cellular energy metabolism, is one method.
Family medicine specialist Seo Myung-won emphasized, "The starting point of rejuvenation is cellular condition, not appearance," and said, "Consistently addressing the small signals the body sends and replenishing cellular energy through care can change the direction of aging."
