Recently, heartwarming news of "striking it rich raising children" has been spreading among comedians.
On the 6th, Jeong Jong-chul wrote on his social media, "Sihu, who left for Vancouver saying he wanted to study abroad in the first year of high school, was admitted to university." He expressed his overwhelming emotions, saying, "He was accepted into the University of Toronto, St. George campus, majoring in social sciences at the end of January, and on the first day of the new year we also received news of acceptance to UBC."
Jeong Si-hu was accepted not only into the University of British Columbia (UBC) majoring in kinesiology but also received scholarship offers of $25,000 from McMaster University and $40,000 from Western University. He was accepted to all the universities he applied to, including Simon Fraser University (SFU), delivering what is called an "all-kill".
The University of Toronto is ranked No. 1 among Canadian universities and is a prestigious school within the world top 20. UBC is also regarded as one of Canada's top-tier universities.
Jeong Jong-chul recalled, "When I called to congratulate him, his mother and father first expressed gratitude, saying it's thanks to sending him to study abroad," and noted, "He left alone for a country he had never visited in two months, so there must have been difficult times." He added, "Whatever he chooses, as parents we will always support and cheer him on. I'm so happy I cried."
This moment drew attention because it was announced that broadcaster Shin Dong-yeob's daughter Shin Ji-hyo was simultaneously accepted to Korea National University of Arts and Seoul National University, and comedian Jeong Jong-chul's son Jeong Si-hu also recently reported consecutive acceptances to major Canadian prestigious universities.
Previously, Shin Dong-yeob also drew attention with the news that his daughter Shin Ji-hyo was accepted into the physical education department at Seoul National University College of Education. Having majored in ballet and attended Sunhwa Arts Middle School and Sunhwa Arts High School, Shin Ji-hyo achieved exceptional results by being accepted to Korea National University of Arts followed by Seoul National University.
Although they have been loved as two comedians known for their quick wit in the entertainment industry, their 모습 as parents who have quietly supported their children's choices offstage is offering another source of emotion.
