Singer and broadcaster Kim Jong Kook is steadily revealing details of his newlywed life with his wife. He kept even the wedding strictly secret and thoroughly concealed his wife's identity, but contrary to that, since the marriage he has been talking about his wife on every broadcast, continuing a 'self-disclosure' trend.
On the 5th, on KBS2's Problem Child in House, when Kim Seung-soo asked about the frequency of marital fights, Kim Jong Kook said, "We hardly ever fight. We really don't interfere with each other," and added, "We lived apart for many years, so how could we interfere with each other?" describing their harmonious newlywed life.
Earlier, on last week's broadcast he said they had known each other beforehand and revealed the love story, saying, "She was a (younger) junior I knew, but the moment I thought, 'If I marry this person I'll be so happy and good,' I felt that instantly."
Kim Jong Kook held his wedding last September at a location in Seoul with a younger non-celebrity bride. The wedding was conducted simply, inviting only family, relatives and close acquaintances out of consideration for the non-celebrity bride.
In particular, Kim Jong Kook's consideration for his wife was seen by those around him as somewhat excessive. To prevent the wedding date from leaking, he informed even entertainment industry acquaintances such as Yu Jae-seok of the news 18 days before the wedding. As a result, some people, including close friend Lee Kwangsoo, were unable to attend because of scheduled commitments. Moreover, Yu Jae-seok, who was asked to emcee, had to adjust a recording scheduled for the wedding day, and there arose criticism that he should have shared the schedule in advance with those asked to play major roles, raising a 'nuisance' controversy.
Also, Kim Jong Kook suddenly made his honeymoon video private after his wife's silhouette briefly appeared in a window, drawing curiosity. Even though it was just a silhouette akin to a shadow, some argued, "Do you have to go this far?"
Ironically, Kim Jong Kook has been using 'marriage' as a topic on every broadcast since his wedding, and recently, six months into his marriage, he has been revealing information about his wife himself. Before the marriage, the only information known about his wife was that she was a "younger non-celebrity," and Kim Jong Kook himself had been extremely reserved, saying "my wife does not want (information disclosed)," so it was expected there would be no further mentions of his wife. However, starting with the wedding, mentions of his wife have gradually increased.
As a newlywed, it is natural that stories about married life come up on variety shows. Furthermore, he could not possibly stop every mention by those around him. However, his actions to hide even a single hair or a single shadow citing fatigue now seem pointless as Kim Jong Kook himself is gradually releasing information about his wife, which appears to only increase viewers' resentment.
