BTS is expanding across Seoul into a vast cultural experience space. The release of the fifth full-length album 'ARIRANG' (Arirang), and another major project following the 'BTS comeback live: ARIRANG' to be held at Gwanghwamun Square, has been announced.
According to BigHit Music on the 6th, from March 20 to April 12, 'BTS THE CITY ARIRANG SEOUL' (BTS the city Arirang Seoul, hereinafter 'the city Seoul') will take place. Experiential content combining music and media and installation productions that harmonize with the urban landscape will be presented across Seoul.
On the day of BTS's new release (March 20), major Seoul landmarks representing the city, including Sungnyemun and Seoul Tower (formerly Namsan Tower), will be lit with media façades. By adding modern media expressions to cultural heritages such as Sungnyemun, symbolic scenes where tradition and the present coexist will be completed. This is expected to serve as an opportunity for the value of Korea's cultural heritage to be re-highlighted around the world.
At Yeouido Hangang Park, a lounge-style program with the concept of sharing and enjoying BTS's music together will be prepared until the 22nd of the same month. Then in April, stone walls, steps and street trees in downtown Seoul will be arranged like exhibition spaces. BTS's song lyrics will be expressed through media productions using light and video.
BigHit Music said, "During the 'the city Seoul' period, we worked with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to create programs so that both tourists and citizens visiting Seoul can experience culture and art in new ways and enjoy BTS's comeback in a multidimensional way," and added, "We have also prepared partnership events linked to various fields such as F&B and mobility, so please look forward to them."
BTS drew a strong response when they presented 'BTS PERMISSION TO DANCE THE CITY - LAS VEGAS' in Las Vegas, U.S., in April 2022 and 'BTS THE CITY in BUSAN' in Busan in October of that year. 'The city' is an "urban play park" that offers an expanded fan experience by opening various attractions and events throughout a city.
Meanwhile, detailed schedules and program information for 'the city Seoul' will be announced later through the global superfans platform Weverse BTS channel. 'BTS THE CITY ARIRANG' is planned to start in Seoul and then unfold sequentially in major cities around the world.
