Actor Mun Ka-young's donations have gone beyond sharing to produce tangible results that change lives, delivering heartwarming emotion.
The international relief organization Cointree (CEO Han Young-jun) said that through Mun Ka-young's ongoing support, programs to build women's self-reliance foundations and provide medical support for children in the shantytown area of Tulum, Mexico, have achieved visible results.
Mun Ka-young, after donating 100 million won to Ewha Womans University Medical Center last year, additionally donated 50 million won from the revenue of the essay collection "PATA" to Cointree.
Mun Ka-young communicated directly with the organization to discuss how to use the donations, and as a result the funds were concentrated on building self-reliance models that allow local women to have stable jobs beyond educational support. This led to tangible changes that helped the economic independence of local women, including single mothers, and prevented family breakdowns.
They also helped build school restrooms that had been in a hygiene blind spot and established a pediatric emergency treatment system, creating a foundation to protect children from preventable diseases.
This movement also spread through the voluntary participation of overseas fans. Global fans who learned of the donation voluntarily contributed and joined the cross-border flow of sharing.
Han Young-jun, CEO of Cointree, said, "Actor Mun Ka-young is a leader-type donor who understands the value of donations better than anyone and thinks together about their use and results," and added, "Her support changed a woman's life and created a structure that saves children." He quoted a line from the Mun Ka-young–starring film Once We Were Us, "I was really grateful you became my home then," to convey gratitude that the support became more than simple aid and provided a sanctuary for local families.
The Mun Ka-young–starring film Once We Were Us is continuing its box-office success as it approaches 2.4 million viewers, and boosted by that, the essay collection "PATA" has also reached its 10th printing, showing steady public interest. More attention is focused on Mun Ka-young's efforts to return artistic success to social sharing.
