Rapper and producer MC MONG (real name Shin Dong-hyun) is facing growing controversy after becoming embroiled in allegations of prostitution. A recent current affairs program addressed the allegations based on APT. residents' complaints and CCTV indications, setting up a clash between the person's explanation and conflicting claims.
TV CHOSUN's current affairs program "Shintong Bangtong" on the 4th focused on allegations concerning MC MONG raised by Kim Sung-min, a reporter with Ilyo Sisa, through the YouTube channel "Jirit Jirit."
The broadcast reported that complaints were filed with the management office regarding the APT. where MC MONG is known to reside, saying that "visits by outside women are frequent," and that some residents raised suspicions that it "may be used as a place for prostitution."
The management office was said to have checked elevator CCTV footage after the complaints were filed. The video showed three women, presumed to be nightlife establishment workers, and one man moving together.
In response, MC MONG was reported to have explained that it "was a gathering where we had dinner with acquaintances and drank wine." However, when the reporter said, "I understand some were women from nightlife establishments," MC MONG was reported to have countered, "Not everyone who works at a bar engages in prostitution."
Reporter Kim said, "As complaints were repeatedly filed, the security office released the related footage," adding, "After the video was presented, MC MONG to some extent acknowledged it and said he would step back from (agency duties) himself."
Meanwhile, MC MONG has been embroiled in various controversies, including an alleged affair with Cha Ga-won, chairman of p_Arc Group (co-CEO of Onehundred), and suspicions of proxy prescriptions for the psychotropic drug zolpidem. MC MONG's side denied the affair allegations and signaled legal action, and on the proxy prescription suspicions also said he "receives prescriptions directly," stating its position.
