Actor and painter Park Shin-yang confessed that he feels a sense of disconnection from the characters he plays.
On the 4th, a video titled Sung Si Kyung's 만나텐데 l It was my first meeting with Park Shin-yang, and the conversation we had stayed with me for a long time was posted on the YouTube channel Sung Si Kyung.
That day, Sung Si Kyung asked Park Shin-yang, who is spending his days as a painter, "Are you tired of acting or bored with it, or is it that you are more drawn to art than acting?"
Park Shin-yang candidly said, "That was my original tendency. Even before acting, I was someone who was very devoted to concerns, thoughts and questions about myself. Once I started acting, I suddenly became busy and people began to recognize me. You might think 'so that must have been good,' but I think it became hectic and there wasn't anything about it that I liked."
When he tried to backtrack with "Of course I shouldn't say it like this..," Sung Si Kyung said, "I have also never enjoyed popularity. It's very uncomfortable and difficult, it doesn't feel like mine, people don't know me and the popularity isn't really me," expressing empathy.
Park Shin-yang also said, "It feels awkward to me. Suddenly the number of people who recognize me increased, but they aren't people who actually know me," and added, "The illusion that I am the person from the drama increased."
He went on to explain, "So in a way actors hide their true selves and act as if they are the character to make people interested, give them emotion, and then they may have the obligation to keep pretending to be the character."
Park Shin-yang added, "To avoid shocking people, the real person and that image shouldn't be very different, but I am very different."
Sung Si Kyung said, "Even with just singing, if someone continues to worry about me because of popularity, they would feel more of a disconnect, but actors who keep performing a personality that is not themselves could feel even more empty," he said in understanding.
