Actor Jung Si-a candidly revealed the reality of her married life, having lived under the same roof with her father-in-law Baek Yoon-sik for 17 years. The studio buzzed at her confession, "I've never lived alone with my husband."
Recently, a video titled "Puberty of a middle school second-year son more terrifying than father-in-law Baek Yoon-sik" was posted on the YouTube channel K.WILL's "Sister-in-law is K.WILL." In the video, Jung Si-a appeared as a guest and laid out, without holding back, the daily life of a daughter-in-law in her 17th year of living together.
Jung Si-a began, "I've never lived alone as just the two of us. So I don't know what it feels like for just the couple to live together." She continued, "I change clothes when I leave my room, not when I leave the house," and "I have never lain on the living room sofa and watched TV even once in 17 years," surprising everyone. The reason she must always appear neat was, she said, "Because my father-in-law keeps coming and going, I naturally pay attention."
What was particularly surprising was the couple's "time alone together." She laughed that "the only time I was alone with my husband was the five nights and six days of our honeymoon," but a note of regret showed at the end of her words. She added, "These days I sometimes think, 'What would it have been like if we had lived together just the two of us?'"
That did not mean she only had complaints. She expressed gratitude, saying, "I never even went to the obstetrician alone. When my husband went to work, my father-in-law would take me. He helps a lot with caring for the children." In fact, he has naturally handled meals, hospital appointments and housework for 17 years.
But she also offered realistic advice. To the question "Would you recommend living together?" she answered without hesitation, "If it were my daughter, I would absolutely oppose it." Her reason was, "It's not as easy as you think for adults to live together. Marriage is a matter for two, but if you bring in elders, the responsibility becomes much greater."
She added, "Not because I dislike them, but because they are the family of the person I love, I endure it," and said, "I think family is a team."
Meanwhile, Jung Si-a married actor Baek Do-bin in 2009 and has one son and one daughter, and she continues to live with her father-in-law Baek Yoon-sik.
