Actor-turned shaman Jung Ho-geun revealed the inside story of becoming a shaman on "Exclusive World."
On the 5th broadcast of MBN's "Exclusive World," Jung Ho-geun appeared and updated viewers on his current life.
Jung Ho-geun met junior actor Kim Deok-hyun that day and reminisced about his days as an actor. Kim had prepared a winter mountain hike for Jung Ho-geun, who actually spends most of his time at a shamanic shrine.
He, who had been thriving as an actor specializing in villainous roles, became a shaman after receiving a spirit mediumship 12 years ago, drawing public attention. Jung Ho-geun reflected on that time, saying, "My body was very sick. Various parts hurt. Especially my stomach hurt. But when I went to the hospital they said there was nothing wrong. I heard sounds in my ear. Sometimes a buzzing like a bee went on all day. When I went to otorhinolaryngology, they said they didn't know either. There were things I could see and things I heard, so I thought it might be a mental illness and took it very seriously," he revealed.
He continued, "When I went to a reputed fortuneteller's house, I heard an unbelievable thing: 'You are a shaman too!' I was so excited I overturned the divination table. There are words you can and cannot say; they bluntly told me I was a shaman. I had set my sights on being an actor—would I want to be told to be a shaman? How painful must that have been," he recalled.
In particular, Jung Ho-geun confessed, "It was hardest when 'King Gwanggaeto' was airing. I often arrived on set early and sat there. Things were visible like this. A woman wearing accessories came up and said, 'Hello.' I was thinking, 'You came early,' but I had the feeling that person was not an extra. When I looked again, she had disappeared. As this happened, the lines I had memorized flew out of my head in shock," he admitted.
When Kim Deok-hyun lamented, "You didn't even express it to us," Jung Ho-geun added, "I wondered what path I would have chosen if I hadn't had a wife and children," adding to the sense of regret.
