Actor Kim Moo Yul will appear in Netflix's new series "Halmae."
On the 5th, OSEN reported that Kim Moo Yul recently received a script offer for Netflix's new work "Halmae," reviewed it positively, and is reported to have decided to appear.
"Halmae" is based on the Kakao webtoon of the same name that began serialization in June 2019, and the story unfolds around 70-year-old Suk-ja, who ran a gun shop with her husband and led an ordinary life. The grandson Yong-hee, who was like a ray of light for the elderly couple, one day returned as a corpse, and Suk-ja, who sank into grief, met Yong-hee's former colleagues Yeonwoo and a person surnamed Kwak and heard about a hidden assault incident. Hearing the secret of Korea's ultra-large corporate-style gang and enraged, Suk-ja receives a secret proposal and her life changes 180 degrees.
Earlier, OSEN's exclusive report revealed that Lee Jung-eun would play the lead role Suk-ja, and with Kim Moo Yul joining this time, he will work alongside Lee Jung-eun. As "Halmae" is known to have many high-difficulty action scenes, curiosity is rising about what the two actors will show when they reunite four years after "Juvenile Justice" (2022).
Kim Moo Yul has finished filming another Netflix series "True Education" in addition to "Halmae" and is awaiting its release. It is scheduled to open in the second quarter of this year, and it has faced much criticism due to many controversies since the production stage.
"True Education" was also based on a webtoon, and it depicted supervisors slapping students as corporal punishment, used racially discriminatory expressions toward people of color, portrayed a scene of slapping a feminism education teacher as "refreshing," and equated feminism education with anti-communist brainwashing, causing controversy as a sexist work.
Regarding this, Netflix senior director Bae Jong-byeong said, "It is a work developed with a sense of responsibility in that it deals with a story that is essential in this era," and added, "We are well aware of criticism or concerns about some episodes in the original during the production process. We acknowledged that, prepared well, and tried to create the work with a refined perspective and responsibility. You will be able to check that part when it is released."
Meanwhile, in addition to his acting activities, Kim Moo Yul will appear in a travel variety show at the end of this month on ENA's new program "Crazy Tour," showcasing travel entertainment with Rain, PaniBottle, and Lee Seung-hoon.
