'You Quiz on the Block' director Jang Hang-jun revealed his characteristic positive thought process.
On the 4th episode of tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereinafter 'You Quiz'), a discussion unfolded about Jang Hang-jun's first historical film, which offers a new interpretation of King Danjong through the movie 'The Man Who Lives with the King'.
Jang Hang-jun opened by saying, "The adult named 'Eom Heung-do' is a person who actually appears in the historical records in three lines. When Danjong died, Eom Heung-do, a low-ranking official from Yeongwol, wailed, gathered the body and then lived in hiding for the rest of his life, that's what they say. After Danjong's death, King Sejo threw the body into the river. Even though he said he would annihilate three generations if someone retrieved the body, Eom Heung-do took out the body, buried it and lived in hiding for the rest of his life. I wanted to portray the story of Eom Heung-do," he said. The role of Eom Heung-do is played by Yoo Hai Jin.
Then with Park Jihoon as Danjong, Yoo Ji-tae as Han Myeong-hoe, Jeon Mido as Maehwa, and even Park Ji-hwan and Ahn Jaehong, the lineup was so dazzling that success seemed inevitable.
Yu Jae-seok laughed, "If the movie doesn't work with these people, isn't it the director's fault?" Jang Hang-jun said, "I felt so much pressure. After casting was finished, writer Kim Eun-hee said, 'Oppa, you have no more excuses now,'" and added, "The anticipation turned into pressure. I began to lose sleep."
Soon after, Jang Hang-jun said with a bright smile, "So I thought about it. Is that what it means to be a great master? Is that how it is and I just didn't know?" He then showed his signature positive power, saying, "The thought that it would be my fault if it failed — until then I used to think if a movie failed it was the audience's fault. Others worked hard, right? The audience merely came and watched, so I blamed the audience. Our staff and actors did so well."
