Actor Alicia Silverstone is being praised for heartwarming action after it was reported she saved the lives of a pregnant stray dog and her puppies that had been scheduled for euthanasia.
According to a report by the Daily Mail on the 3rd (local time), about six weeks ago Alicia Silverstone learned the story of a pregnant dog that was scheduled for euthanasia due to overcrowding at an animal shelter in San Bernardino, California. After seeing a Facebook post about the shelter's situation, she immediately contacted Mike Arms, CEO of the Helen Woodward Animal Center, to request a rescue.
In an interview with NBC San Diego, Alicia Silverstone said she called without hesitation because the dog's face was so beautiful and lovable. The rescue team moved immediately, and the pregnant terrier mix gave birth to as many as 14 puppies just after leaving the shelter. Unfortunately, two of them did not survive.
The mother dog was named Noel to mark Christmas, and the 12 surviving puppies were given names inspired by "the 12 days of Christmas." Alicia Silverstone said she could not believe the dog had given birth on the day she was to be euthanized, calling it a miracle of life.
She later visited the shelter with her 14-year-old son Bear Blu Jarecki and ultimately decided to foster four of the puppies. She said she had only three weeks before leaving for Europe, but could not just walk away.
On social media, Alicia Silverstone shared a realistic account of fostering, saying she spent the whole day picking up waste, feeding them and keeping them warm. She said they were very lovable but at the same time complete chaos, and added that if possible she wanted to take them all in.
She also urged her followers to choose rescue animals over breeders or pet shops and actively encouraged adopting shelter dogs. Silverstone is known as a long-time vegan and animal rights advocate, and her pets are also raised on vegan diets.
Meanwhile, Alicia Silverstone rose to global stardom with the 1995 film Clueless, which was recently honored by being added to the National Film Registry at the U.S. Library of Congress. She is currently preparing to shoot her next film and a TV series.
