Actor and painter Park Shin-yang explained why she has not sold her paintings for 10 years.
On the 4th, a video titled Sung Si Kyung's Mannaltende l It was my first meeting with Park Shin-yang, and the conversation we had stayed with me for a long time was posted on the YouTube channel Sung Si Kyung.
That day Park Shin-yang said she has painted more than 200 works in total so far and said, "I've been painting for about 13 years. My painting size is usually only as big as these two doors," which drew surprise.
Sung Si Kyung said, "Then you must have been very diligent," expressing admiration, and Park Shin-yang humbly replied, "I think I could be a little more diligent. I only realized I had painted a lot later when people saw it at an exhibition and said, 'There are not many people who have painted this much.'"
Park Shin-yang painted about 15 to 20 pieces a year. That means she painted roughly one every two weeks. Then Sung Si Kyung asked, "Don't you sell your works?", and Park Shin-yang joked, "Would you like to buy one?"
Park Shin-yang continuously painted without selling her works for 10 years. She said, "That's how it happened. Like searching for longing, I missed friends terribly and wanted to know what my longing was, so I painted. But there was no room for the thought of how to sell these. Time just passed like that."
She went on, "I don't think I can avoid selling them forever. I can't really imagine that. But the effort I can make now is to show them to many people, as I showed my acting. I think that is the consistency between the way I expressed myself in acting and in painting."
In particular, Park Shin-yang said, "I think it's complete not only when I do it but also when viewers experience an emotional reaction," while stating her conviction that she does not want to evaluate her own work.
