Taiwanese actor the late Seohee won (Xu Xiyuan) died at the age of 49, and with one year having passed since her death, the process of her passing has been revealed, adding to the sadness.
On the 3rd, KBS2's Celeb Soldier's Secret revealed the process of how Seohee died during a trip to Japan she took with her family.
According to the broadcast, Seohee left for a family trip to Japan on Jan. 29, 2025, and died just five days later on Feb. 2. What caused a healthy woman to die in such a short time? Specialists agreed that it was not a simple acute illness but the "butterfly effect of underlying illnesses" accumulated over a long period.
The seed of the tragedy lay in the chronic illness Seohee had suffered from for a long time. Specialist Lee Nak-jun, who appeared on the broadcast, identified Seohee's diagnosis as "mitral valve prolapse." This is a condition in which the mitral valve does not close properly when the left ventricle contracts, causing blood to flow backward.
Specialist Lee Nak-jun analyzed, "To prevent blood from leaking, the heart has to pump harder, and as a result heart overload and fatigue accumulate, leaving the heart function deteriorated."
In addition, a history of childbirth further weakened her heart. Seohee fell into a coma for 10 days due to seizures and convulsions caused by preeclampsia when she gave birth to her second child with her ex-husband. The specialist explained, "Heart disease increases the risk of preeclampsia, and preeclampsia in turn worsens heart disease, forming a 'vicious cycle.'"
On Jan. 29, 2025, the first day of the Japan trip, Seohee showed signs of poor condition. Because the initial symptoms resembled a cold, she judged that warming her body would make her feel better and took a hot-spring bath at the hotel. But that was a fatal choice for someone with heart disease. The hot bath raised vascular pressure and placed an enormous burden on an already weakened heart.
After being taken to the emergency room, Seohee was diagnosed with pneumonia complications. A fatal misjudgment occurred in this process. After giving fever reducers and the fever subsided, the family believed her condition had improved, but the specialist's view was different. Specialist Lee Nak-jun pointed out, "For patients with chronic underlying conditions, a drop in body temperature after a high fever is not recovery but a warning sign that the immune system has given up fighting the virus and 'surrendered.'" The fever going down was therefore a sign that the shadow of death had fallen.
In the end, on the afternoon of Feb. 2, 2025, Seohee's heart stopped on the way to the airport as she was heading home. It was exactly five days after she left on the trip. She was moved to a nearby hospital and fought for 14 hours, but restoring her collapsed heart and lung function was beyond recovery.
