"Single's Inferno5" panelists apologized for their excessive remarks toward cast member Choi Mina-su.
On the 8th episode of Netflix's "Single's Inferno" released on the 3rd, Choi Mina-su was shown confessing her honest feelings to Song Seung-il.
That day Choi Mina-su answered Song Seung-il, who asked, "Who would you want to come to heaven with again?", "Seonghoon-nim," adding, "Isn't it possible that this could be the last time we come to heaven? So I really want Seonghoon-nim to go with me. I thought, 'It would be nice if he went with me'". In response, Song Seung-il said, "You're a very strange person. I don't think I would have thought that far. I need to be sure whether that's curiosity about Seonghoon or affection. Coming from consideration might actually be bad for that person. Say you went with Seonghoon. Then what exactly are your feelings? What emotion are you making the final choice with? Even coming all the way to heaven, I don't think you need to come this far to find out about that person" and expressed bewilderment.
Choi Mina-su said, "I don't know my feelings, but I'm concerned. He has feelings for me. And he says he's straightforward," and Song Seung-il replied, "I don't know. Just because he's straightforward, do I have to figure that person out? I'm busy pouring my feelings into someone I like; do I have to take care of that? I think I'd feel that way. If it were me," and voiced his honest thoughts.
Choi Mina-su said, "That makes sense and I'll keep it in mind. I'll only take it as a reference. It's a worry, hearing you say that. It's difficult," and Song Seung-il asked, "Aren't you a little comfortable? Can't you just talk with Seonghoon-nim?" However, Choi Mina-su asked, "What about Subin-nim?" showing that she was concerned about Lim Subin as well, and Song Seung-il responded, "It's your decision. I don't know. Do as you see fit," expressing that he couldn't understand. Then Choi Mina-su snapped, "If I get another chance to go to heaven, I'll go with Seonghoon-nim. I'll do that. I'll do what I want. Don't tell me what to do," and Song Seung-il replied, "When did I tell you what to do?" in astonishment. Choi Mina-su reiterated, "I'll handle it myself. I'll handle it well," and Song Seung-il said, "I enjoyed the time with you, but I also want to go in quickly. I'm curious what hellscape will be like," adding, "I want to leave. I want to stop being here. It's stressful," and left his seat.
Watching this, Lee Da-hee empathized, "But Seung-il kind of expressed the things I wanted to say, so I feel relieved. He spoke up," and Dex said, "Actually, even we MCs have limits to what we can say. But when the person involved speaks like that, viewers, including us, feel relieved," he confessed, and Hong Jin Kyung agreed with Song Seung-il's rebuke, saying, "Also, during breaks we sometimes get called in by production. They say the remarks were a bit harsh. We go get coached and come back and soften our words, but today Seung-il played a big role."
But later in episode 9, Choi Mina-su secretly cried after receiving a stinging remark from Kim Min-ji that "You don't seem to know yourself. How can you date if you don't know yourself?" In an interview with production, Choi Mina-su candidly said, "Everything was fine. Even remarks with the nuance of 'it seems like you're prodding everything' were fine. I thought it was understandable; because Min-ji-nim's feelings are straightforward. After that, Min-ji-nim told me, 'You don't know yourself.' That really upset me. I thought that was very rude and I felt it was disrespectful. That remark hurt, and I held it in until it burst out later. That made me very upset."
Then Lee Da-hee, embarrassed, said, "But I think Mina-su first said she doesn't know her feelings, and then someone said you don't seem to know yourself," and Hong Jin Kyung said, "What makes me so solemn is how angry Mina-su must be because of us MCs. Didn't we talk about Mina-su too? We did," she said.
Up until now the panelists had also fired blunt remarks such as "can't shield" and "stop it" at Choi Mina-su, who showed baffling behavior like expressing attraction to four men. Expressions of frustration toward Choi Mina-su continued up to the previous episode. Amid that, seeing Choi Mina-su finally cry and reveal her upset feelings, the panelists showed signs of reflection. Lee Da-hee said, "Let's not talk like that anymore..." and added, "Kyuhyun, apologize quickly. You said you understood," and Dex said, "I'll apologize on behalf of us," he conveyed.
Kyuhyun said, "We also don't really know Mina-su," and "We spoke as if we knew her well," looking at a loss, and Hong Jin Kyung publicly apologized, "I'm sorry, Mina-su."
Meanwhile, "Single's Inferno5" is a dating reality show where singles' honest and bold dating unfolds on an isolated island called "Jiokdo," from which only couples can leave, and the final episodes 11 and 12 are scheduled to be released on the 10th.
