The group EXO (EXO, affiliated with SM Entertainment) wrote a perfect "return of the king" narrative last week by protecting the "crown" on music shows.
EXO with the title track of their eighth full-length album "Crown" appeared on cable channel MBC M·MBC every1's "Show! Champion" on the 28th of last month, cable channel Mnet's "M Countdown" on the 29th, KBS 2TV's "MUSIC BANK" on the 30th, MBC's "Show! Music Core" on the 31st, and SBS's "Inkigayo" on Feb. 1, achieving a five-crown grand slam by ranking first on music shows without appearing in person.
The members said, "Through this album we felt that, like the team slogan 'WE ARE ONE,' EXO and EXO-L (EXO-L, the official fan club name) have become one. We are happier than ever that the world seems to recognize fans' love and our sincerity. EXO exists because EXO-L exists. We gained the belief that if we are together we can do anything. We will always keep a grateful heart and repay with a good appearance."
The title track "Crown" is a hard dance song that blends Atlanta trap drums, heavy metal guitar and EDM synths to blur genre boundaries; it likens a precious person to a crown and conveys in the lyrics a desperate wish to stake everything and protect them to the end, and it has been loved for its powerful performance equipped with the "SMP style."
This album is EXO's new release after 2 years and 6 months, and since its Jan. 19 release it has topped iTunes' top albums chart in 47 regions worldwide, ranked first on the weekly K-pop chart across five integrated music platforms under Tencent Music in China, received QQ Music's "Triple Platinum" certification (sales exceeding 3 million yuan) and ranked first on its digital album weekly chart, and swept global charts with fierce momentum including No. 1 on Hanteo Chart's world·album chart and Circle Chart's album·retail album weekly charts.
EXO will open the curtain on their sixth solo concert tour "EXO PLANET #6 - EXhOrizon" at KSPO DOME in Olympic Park, Songpa District, Seoul for three days from April 10 to 12.
