Actor Kim Seon-ho has been embroiled in allegations of tax evasion related to a one-person agency, and his upcoming projects have been affected.
On the 1st, Kim Seon-ho was suddenly caught up in allegations of tax evasion involving a one-person agency. Cha Eun-woo, a singer and actor who is an artist at the same agency Fantagio, was recently notified of a tax reassessment on the order of 20 billion won and was caught up in what could be the largest celebrity tax evasion allegation, and Kim Seon-ho is also accused of tax evasion related to a one-person agency under the same family corporation as Cha Eun-woo.
Kim Seon-ho's one-person agency was established in January 2024 using his residence as its address. Kim Seon-ho was registered as the chief executive officer, and his parents were listed respectively as an inside director and an auditor. Although it is a business that plans performances and entertainment projects, it did not register separately as a one-person agency nor did it sign settlement payment contracts with Kim Seon-ho's agencies.
This is different from Cha Eun-woo, who received settlement payments through a family corporation and applied corporate tax rather than personal income tax. Nevertheless, the registered directors and auditor family members are accused of tax evasion over gifts through salaries and corporate card use and assets held in the corporation's name.
The problem is that Kim Seon-ho currently has three upcoming projects. First, he will appear as the male lead in the new drama In the Net, based on the novel Mangnaein. His co-star is Park Gyu-young, and filming has already been completed. In the Net is known to be under discussion for programming as a new drama on TVING.
Disney+'s new original series Portraits of Delusion is also set to be released. Portraits of Delusion, a project in which Kim Seon-ho stars opposite singer and actor Suzy, drew attention from the casting stage. Filming is scheduled to finish this month, and it is set to be released on Disney+ in the first half of the year.
In addition, Kim Seon-ho was scheduled to appear in the new drama The lawmaker blesses, adapted from a popular web novel of the same name. In The lawmaker blesses, Kim Seon-ho plays Cha Jae-rim, a level-9 public servant who becomes a righteous politician. Critics say that because of the character's nature, the controversy will hinder immersion unless it is resolved.
However, agency Fantagio has denied the allegations related to Kim Seon-ho. A Fantagio official told OSEN on the 1st that currently Kim Seon-ho is active under an exclusive contract with Fantagio and in his personal name, and that they are faithfully complying with legal and tax procedures related to the current contractual relationship and activities, the agency said in an official statement.
Fantagio particularly emphasized, "We make it clear that there is no problem with Kim Seon-ho's contract and activities with agency Fantagio," and added, "The one-person corporation mentioned in reports was established for theater production and theater-related activities and was never established for the purpose of deliberate tax avoidance or tax evasion."
However, they added, "After moving to Fantagio, actual business activities had not been carried out for about a year and are currently going through the closure process in accordance with relevant laws and procedures," and "We will continue to comply with relevant laws and procedures in all activities and do our best so that the actor's activities can continue without unnecessary misunderstanding." <
