'Spike War' delivers a final showdown that even 'the emperor of volleyball' Kim Yeon-koung became deeply absorbed in.
Today (1st), the MBN sports variety show 'Spike War' final will finally determine the last winning team that will face the volleyball team led by Japanese volleyball legend Naka-gaichi Yuichi in a Korea-Japan match. Shinboom vs. Gimyohan, expectations are building over which team will smile.
In last week's Shinboom vs. Gimyohan final match, the first set was won by the 'Gimyohan' team and the second set was won by the 'Shinboom' team, ending with the set score tied 1-1. Watching the final match from the commentary box, Kim Yeon-koung said, "I can't predict the outcome. I'll just not predict it," expressing surprise at the neck-and-neck contest.
In the continued play that day, the back-and-forth one-point battles between the two teams persisted. As the lead changed repeatedly, Director General Kim Se-jin laughed, "What is this, I find myself watching so intently," and Kim Yeon-koung added, "My neck is cramping right now. I'm watching the match with a forward head posture," prompting laughter.
With every point precious, both teams faced critical moments. Shinboom's ace Kael collapsed on the court with calf pain, and Song Min-jun, who had a previous knee injury, had to endure pain and play with his leg bandaged. Concerned about the injuries to the two indispensable players, Kim Min-gyeong said, "Our team is in an emergency. What are we going to do?"
The Gimyohan team's situation was similar. Ace Yoon Seong-bin had a finger bent while trying to block Kael's attack. Si Eun-mi encouraged the players, asking, "Can't you hold on just a little longer?" and did her best until the end.
Later, Si Eun-mi's hot tears were captured, arousing curiosity. Having shown charisma by leading team members on the court in place of coach Kim Yo-han as a former player, whether Si Eun-mi's tears were tears of joy or tears of regret drew attention to the outcome of the Shinboom vs. Gimyohan final match.
Meanwhile, the MBN 'Spike War' final will air tonight (1st) at 11:20 p.m.
