Singer Koo Jun-yeob is approaching one year since he lost his wife, the late Seohee, and it was revealed that the inscription on the late woman's tombstone is identical to the "couple tattoo" the two had once had on their necks, making viewers' hearts even heavier.
A pre-release clip released by KBS2's Celeb Soldier's Secret, airing Feb. 3, showed Koo Jun-yeob visiting the gravesite ahead of his wife's first anniversary.
In the video, Koo Jun-yeob sat alone on a chair in front of the grave with his hat pulled down low. What reddened viewers' eyes was the clearly engraved wording on the tombstone. On the late Seohee's tombstone was the phrase Remember, Together, Forever and Koo Jun-yeob's final message reading "I will love you forever - Junjun."
This was not a simple memorial phrase. In 2022, after the two reunited after 23 years and became a married couple, they vowed eternal love to each other and had the couple tattoo phrase engraved on their bodies. At the time, the two had the phrase taken from the lyrics of the song they each liked most and tattooed it, promising "let's never part again," but the reality that it has now become a cold epitaph adds to the sorrow.
Koo Jun-yeob's devotion did not stop at the tombstone. Rain or scorching heat, he visits the grave every single day without fail, offering the coffee and bread his wife liked in life and noodles he cooked himself.
When the production team expressed concern about the bad weather, Koo Jun-yeob trailed off, saying, "I have to come. Seohee is lying there having a much harder time than me," and after a long time without speaking he finally bowed his head and wept. Watching this in the studio, MC Jang Do-youn also said, "All the answers to the questions were only tears," and broke down, causing the recording to be briefly halted.
Koo Jun-yeob's current health is also said to be serious. According to testimony from his sister-in-law Seo Hee-je and his niece Lily, he has almost stopped eating since his wife's death and lost more than 10 kg. Even local residents lamented, "He looks so gaunt compared with when we first saw him," and "He watches only her (Seohee)'s videos every day and cries."
The sad story of the vow of love etched on his body becoming an epitaph, and the sight of Koo Jun-yeob guarding the grave, emaciated, will be revealed on KBS2's Celeb Soldier's Secret on Feb. 3.
