The bitter cold of Cheonggye Mountain toppled Kian84. Even someone who had been to the Arctic was helpless before the cold snap.
On the 30th episode of the MBC variety show I Live Alone, Kian84 and Dowoon were shown greeting the new year with an early-morning hike up Cheonggye Mountain. But the romance was brief: a cutting wind with a wind chill of minus 20 degrees swept over the two.
That day the temperature was minus 14 degrees, with a wind chill reaching minus 20 degrees. While continuing the climb in the brutal cold, Kian84 finally spat out a curse, saying "eou XX," and the studio buzzed instantly. Dowoon also fought the cold, unable to continue speaking.
Watching this, Minho pointed out the twos clothing. He said, "You should wear several thin layers when hiking in winter. If only their ears, necks and hands had been properly covered, it would have been much better," expressing regret.
The situation grew more serious the closer they got to the summit. The twos faces swelled and reddened from the cutting wind, and to make matters worse, they still had to wait 40 minutes for the sunrise after reaching the summit. They tried to endure with the foil blanket and emergency rations Dowoon had brought and the hot coffee Kian84 had prepared, but their frozen bodies would not warm easily. Their tongues were even stiff, making it hard to taste properly.
Kian84 said, "The Arctic is much warmer," and added, "For those wondering whether to go to the Arctic, the weather is similar to Korea," drawing laughter. He went on, "My speech becomes slurred and my mind goes hazy. I cant even remember what I said," he admitted. Dowoon added, "Both of us look like beggars," summing up the situation.
Meanwhile, Kian84 recently experienced the Arctic firsthand on the variety show Extreme 84. Having endured in extreme conditions, he this time faced another "extreme" on Cheonggye Mountain in the dead of winter, bringing a different kind of laughter.
