Famous broadcaster Oprah Winfrey, celebrating her 72nd birthday, once again drew attention by revealing impressive strength-training skills.
On the 29th (local time), Oprah Winfrey posted a video on her social media of her doing deadlifts at a gym. Although the workout was done to celebrate her birthday, her stable form while lifting the barbell and her relaxed expression caught the eye. After finishing the workout, she approached the person filming and, laughing, said, "I didn't even know what a deadlift was before," adding to her trademark charming humor.
In the post, Oprah said, "Life at 72 is different from any previous decade," and added, "I started strength training after two summers and two knee surgeries. Maintaining muscle becomes really important as you age." She continued, "I'm not ready to go to the Olympics like Adele, but I definitely feel stronger. Try something new to mark a new year."
She especially recalled an anecdote from a past interview with singer Adele. Oprah said, "When Adele said she does deadlifts, I pretended to know what she was talking about, but I really didn't," which drew laughter. In fact, during a 2021 interview she couldn't hide her surprised expression when Adele talked about strength training.
Oprah has recently drawn attention for candidly sharing her experience with weight loss using GLP-1 class drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy. She said, "I have come to accept that weight management is not about willpower or blame but a tool for health," and emphasized, "I no longer feel ashamed of or blame myself." She currently exercises six days a week, combining treadmill workouts, hiking and weight training, and has also quit drinking.
Oprah, whose past highest weight reached about 237 pounds (about 107 kg), said, "Now I feel more alive in my body than ever," conveying a calm attitude toward aging. During a 2024 appearance on the Today show, she said, "Knowing there isn't a lot of time left creates a tension to live better. I am peacefully coexisting with that fact."
