Writer, professor and broadcaster Kwak Jeong-eun criticized the divorced couple Oksun and Gyeongsu from I'm SOLO season 22, who revealed their family matters.
On the 30th, a video titled "I watch the confession of Oksun and Gyeongsu's family on I'm SOLO like this" was posted as a short on the YouTube channel "Kwak Jeong-eun's private life."
In the video, Kwak Jeong-eun said, "Recently, watching the newly remarried couple's broadcast grants video made me feel very heavy-hearted. They probably made that decision because they wanted to comfort people in similar circumstances or because they felt stifled themselves," she said.
She continued, "But as a psychology major, there is something I want to say to this couple," adding, "First you need to know this. The production team is not interested in a guest's happiness. They need stories that attract attention and raise ratings. When the producers bluntly ask to tell everything, you should not accept all of that," she emphasized.
She said, "Adults choose to show their faces, but a child has no choice at all. Intimate family matters are broadcast to the entire nation and will continue to spread as videos, and that becomes something difficult to erase from the child's memory," adding, "A child wants to love their mother whether she is the biological mother or a stepmother. Because she is important to the child. But if the whole nation knows our mother's past and points fingers, how is the child supposed to cope? I think it was a very irresponsible choice."
She went on, "You shed tears on the show, but the child might think this: 'My mom and dad are already struggling, and if I honestly tell my true feelings, will that make my parents struggle more?' The child may hide their wounds deep inside and play the role of the good child," adding, "I am greatly disappointed that the producers did not care for these aspects. If they had considered the child's position even a little, couldn't they have consulted a psychology expert to see whether it was okay for this content to be aired?"
She also asked, "I want to ask: who benefits from this kind of program and how? The couple may have felt relieved for a while, and since they need more fame it might help them. But what price does the child have to pay? Thinking it's okay because it's our family's story may be the parents' greatest arrogance. A child is not parental property but an independent person," she added.
Earlier, on the Kim Chang-ok show 4 that aired on the 27th, Oksun and Gyeongsu from season 22 appeared and shared the realistic concerns of a remarried family.
Oksun said, "I was raising a five-year-old son when I met my husband. He treats me so well that I think, 'He is doing so much for me,' which scares me. Every time he does something for me, I'm afraid he will leave," and she cried. Oksun also said, "My son accepts my husband and the husband's daughter as his biological father and biological older sister, but the husband's daughter still does not call me mom." Gyeongsu's daughter from season 22 reportedly calls Oksun from season 22 'aunt.'
Gyeongsu said, "I met my ex-wife when I was a college freshman and we were together for 10 years, but we divorced because of the other party's affair," adding, "I was busy and felt like I didn't take care of her. When I met someone else, I thought doing everything for them was the way to keep the relationship."
