The production company ContentsHAAP's content agreement '2026 HAAP Project,' aimed at developing and revitalizing original Korean plays, has released the main poster for its first work, the play "Mourning My Death," ahead of its opening this February.
The play "Mourning My Death" follows the siblings from the first day to the last day of the funeral as they face their mother's sudden death; it is the story of two people whose ways of showing sorrow and memories of their mother are quite different, following the time they each spend mourning in their own way. Accustomed to restraining emotions rather than showing sorrow, the sister "Eojin," who is responsible for the funeral and its arrangements with no time to grieve, is played by actors Gong Min-jung and Kang Yeon-jeong. The brother "Dojin," who cannot understand a sister who does not shed a single tear at the funeral because he cannot hide his sorrow, is cast with Ryu Se-il and Kim Chang-il.
Their casting lineup, counted among Daehangno's top veteran actors whose three-name reputation alone conveys faith and trust among fans and audiences, made the play an instant topic of conversation among theater fans when the opening news was announced.
The newly released poster draws attention with the image of a pure white chrysanthemum, laid as an offering at someone's final procession, tied with a black ribbon and suspended from the ceiling. The petals falling as if fluttering from the upside-down chrysanthemum and the trailing end of the swaying black ribbon faintly suggest the act of mourning death and the emotional ripples beneath it that the play "Mourning My Death" will portray.
Playwright and director Park Joo-young, who won the 2023 Dong-A Theatre Award for best new director at the 60th Dong-A Theatre Awards for "The place to leave after fixing" and who has delicately directed the intimate narratives and emotional lines of works such as "Dry Women," "Youngja's first taxi," and "Alice on the basement sixth floor," is in charge of the script and direction. In this work, Park will fully display his characteristic strengths to densely and precisely construct the sorrow and loss of those left behind after another's death, and the weight of memory and time.
Adding further credibility is ContentsHAAP, the performance production company that develops new and original stories, achieves box-office success, and expands artistic horizons with audiences. ContentsHAAP, which also produced the other hot play "Secret Passage," starring Yang Kyung-won, Kim Seon-ho, Kim Sungkyu, Lee Si-hyung, Oh Kyung-ju, and Kang Seung Ho, chose "Mourning My Death" as the first work of the 2026 HAAP Project, which the company started to develop and revitalize original plays in Korea, making the selection even more meaningful.
Meanwhile, the play "Mourning My Death" is scheduled to open at Daehangno TOM Theater from Feb. 24 (Tue) to March 22 (Sun), and the first ticket opening will be held from 4 p.m. on Feb. 3 (Tue) on NolTicket and YES24.<
