A basketball player, Lee Gwanhee, who appeared on 'Single's Inferno 3,' is facing public backlash for rude remarks directed at Hong Jin Kyung.
On the 27th, a video titled "Want to watch a Single's Inferno 5 review together?" was uploaded to the "Basketball player God Gwanhee" channel.
That day, Lee Gwanhee spent time watching Single's Inferno 5 together with Yoon Ha Bin, who had appeared with him on the Netflix dating reality Single's Inferno 3.
While watching, Lee Gwanhee asked about Yoon Ha Bin's type, saying of one contestant, "This person seems like the type you need to see often. What do you think?" and then said, "I like seeing someone often."
At that moment, on screen MC Hong Jin Kyung expressed confusion, saying, "But how do you see someone seven times (a week)?" Hearing this, Lee Gwanhee remarked, "Ah, Jin Kyung nuna, you could see someone seven times."
He then said in irritation, "I wanted to say this: Jin Kyung nuna probably doesn't know much about dating, and I'm upset that she's giving dating advice there." He sought agreement from Yoon Ha Bin, asking, "What do you think?" and Yoon Ha Bin asked, "Isn't she married and has children?"
To this, Lee Gwanhee replied provocatively, "Does being married make you better than me? I'm going to get married too," and Yoon Ha Bin added, "That would have been from long ago."
Then Lee Gwanhee said, "I accept Hanhae, Dex, and Dahye nuna. But honestly, I can't understand Jin Kyung nuna. I don't think she's better at dating than me," asking again, "What do you think?" A flustered Yoon Ha Bin drew a line, saying, "That's a matter unrelated to me."
Despite Yoon Ha Bin's reaction, Lee Gwanhee repeatedly said, "I don't think Jin Kyung nuna suits me." Even when Yoon Ha Bin tried to smooth things over by saying, "I respect her. People have different styles," he fired a shot, "Jin Kyung nuna, please do better, you're not fun," drawing attention.
After the video was released, criticism poured in from netizens. They argued that because an MC's role on a dating program is reaction, it is incomprehensible to pick apart and criticize Hong Jin Kyung, who was faithfully doing her job. Moreover, critics said his attitude of acting as if he knows dating better and excessively criticizing what is simply a difference in dating style and publicly belittling her by saying, "Please do better, you're not fun," is not being honest but "rude."
Actual comments under the video were full of criticism of Lee Gwanhee's words and actions. But as of the fourth day after the video was uploaded, Lee Gwanhee has not taken separate measures such as deleting or editing the video or issuing an apology or explanation.
