"New Recruit 4" returns with original member Kim Min-ho along with Kim Dong-jun and Oh Dae-Hwan, who are returning after season 3.
On the 28th, OSEN exclusively reported that "New Recruit 4" is in production and that actors Kim Min-ho, Kim Dong-jun and Oh Dae-Hwan will appear.
The "New Recruit" series is a drama adapted from a web animation presented by YouTuber Jang Bbijju on his personal channel. Set at a military base where soldiers from diverse backgrounds gather, the story of the distinct new recruits joining unfolds at times humorously and at times movingly, earning a devoted fan base.
Riding that momentum, the "New Recruit" series has proven its series power by meeting viewers without pause from the first season, which premiered in 2022 during ENA's early rebranding, through season 3, which aired last year. Furthermore, a spin-off theatrical film of "New Recruit" is also in production.
Among them, director Min Jin-gi, who directed the "New Recruit" series, mentioned planning season 4 in an interview last year. At the time nothing was specifically decided, but he said that once work on the "New Recruit" film is finished, they would prepare drama season 4. With programming and major casting lineups being finalized, production is expected to begin quickly.
For this, "New Recruit 4" will feature original member Kim Min-ho at the forefront, joined by Kim Dong-jun, formerly of ZE:A who was active in season 3, and veteran actor Oh Dae-Hwan. Kim Min-ho first captivated fans as rookie Park Min-seok, the "military spoon" recruit in season 1. Portraying Park Min-seok, who is awkward but shows growth over successive seasons, has increased Kim Min-ho's recognition, especially among male viewers.
Kim Dong-jun, formerly of idol group ZE:A, broadened his filmography by even portraying the Goryeo emperor in the KBS 2TV historical epic "Korea-Khitan War." He joined "New Recruit 3" as top star recruit Jeon Se-gye and is expected in "New Recruit 4" to again play the top star Jeon Se-gye, this time enlisted as an active-duty army soldier, showing his growth.
Here, Oh Dae-Hwan returns as company commander Jo Baek-ho. Jo Baek-ho drew attention in season 3 as a genial company commander who smiled wryly. At the same time, he was praised for showing the traits of a capable soldier who was not simply sloppy. Expectations are high for his role in season 4.
"New Recruit 4" will again be directed by Min Jin-gi, who planned and directed the series. The program is scheduled to air on ENA in the second half of this year.
