Recipe For Love, ready to hit the living room, revealed key viewing points you should not miss ahead of its premiere.
The new KBS 2TV weekend drama Recipe For Love (directed by Han Jun-seo, written by Park Ji-suk), scheduled to premiere on the 31st, is a family makeup drama in which two families, entangled in a 30-year feud, resolve misunderstandings, heal each other's wounds and are ultimately reborn as one family.
With the trusted writer and director, and the strong acting ensemble of Jin Se Yun (as Gong Joo-a), So E-hyun (as Yang Hyun-bin), Yu Ho-jung (as Han Sung-mi), Kim Seung-soo (as Gong Jeong-han), Kim Hyung-mook (as Yang Dong-ik) and Park Ki Woong (as Cha Se-ri), expectations have grown, and we looked at viewing points that make the drama even more enjoyable.
30-year-old feud between two families with extraordinary enemy chemistry
The Gong family led by Gong Joo-a (played by Jin Se Yun) and the Yang family led by Yang Hyun-bin (played by So E-hyun) are famous rival households that blow small matters out of proportion. Their long-standing enmity began with the elders Noh Sun-hae (played by Kim Mi-sook) and Yang Sun-chul (played by Joo Jin-mo) and has continued over three generations for 30 years. Separated by a single street and growling whenever they meet, curiosity is piqued over how these two families will resolve their old conflicts and open the path to reconciliation.
The stark contrast in treatment philosophies between Gong Jeong-han (played by Kim Seung-soo) and Yang Dong-ik (played by Kim Hyung-mook) also adds to the drama's appeal. The genial neighborhood doctor Gong Jeong-han, who insists on free treatment for elderly patients who delay care because they cannot afford it, and Yang Dong-ik, who focuses on attracting celebrity clients and a high-end clinic image rather than traditional Korean medicine, engage in a tense power struggle. Added to that are the fiery confrontations between Han Sung-mi (played by Yu Ho-jung) and Cha Se-ri (played by Park Ki Woong), promising a cheerful farce each episode.
Jin Se Yun x So E-hyun's modern Romeo and Juliet romance
The relationship between the son and daughter of the rival families, Gong Joo-a and Yang Hyun-bin, is also worth noting. Called a modern Romeo and Juliet, the two display chemistry that teeters between tension and excitement. Especially after reuniting because of an unexpected incident, the relationship takes on a new phase from their innocent childhood first love.
Gong Joo-a, who was usually indifferent to dating, faces the unabashed, direct charm of Yang Hyun-bin, who once had a childhood crush on her, and how she changes is the key question. Pure and clear in love, Gong Joo-a and emotionally candid Yang Hyun-bin's meeting is enough to stimulate viewers' romance instincts. Ultimately, anticipation rises over what romantic synergy they will show as they overcome their families' feud.
A family story that resonates across generations
The diverse family narratives of three generations living under one roof cannot be overlooked. The Gong family includes Gong Joo-a, who obtained a medical license under her mother's pressure but ultimately followed her dream and chose the path of a designer, along with other characters with distinctive backstories that blend together. Combined with grandmother Noh Sun-hae, the household's steady pillar, and the realistic joys and sorrows and conflicts of the middle-aged couple Han Sung-mi and Gong Jeong-han, the couple's storyline is expected to create deep empathy across generations and offer warm consolation.
Facing them, the Yang family also adds vitality through a range of characters. Starting with Yang Hyun-bin, who always holds his family close to his heart, the patriarch Yang Sun-chul, who is patriarchal and clumsy at expressing himself, and the father Yang Dong-ik, who yearns for love and respect, create a more three-dimensional drama. Added to that is the role of Cha Se-ri, the queen of household support who warmly embraces her husband Yang Dong-ik, promising to show the Yang family's unique close-knit yet cheerful family love.
