'Mukchingu' guest chef Lu Ching Lai faces an unexpected "recognition humiliation" at a Chinese restaurant in Yeosu.
The 16th episode of the full-fledged real street food documentary "Jun Hyun-moo plan 3" (MBN·Channel S·SK Broadband co-produced), airing on the 30th (Fri), shows Jun Hyun-moo and KwakTube (Kwak Jun-bin) visiting a Chinese restaurant in Yeosu that is a "genuine" local favorite with the "master of Chinese cuisine" Lu Ching Lai.
That day the three chose a long-established Chinese restaurant run by the "Chinese cuisine grandma" of Yeosu as their "first meal spot." Before contacting the restaurant, KwakTube cautiously predicted, "The owner might actually refuse to host us when she sees Chef Lu Ching Lai," and Jun Hyun-moo agreed, saying, "She is a master, so the owner might feel burdened." But a twist that overturned everyone's expectations occurred. When Lu Ching Lai strode into the restaurant, the "Chinese cuisine grandma" said, "She looks like a neighbor…" and did not recognize him. At this point Lu Ching Lai firmly said, "There was no such concept in the old days," putting an end to the debate that seemed eternal. After tasting the "Chinese cuisine grandma"'s sweet and sour pork, palbochae, japchae rice, and ganjjajang, Lu Ching Lai praised the food highly, saying, "This is the true Yeosu taste. I was skeptical when we came in, but she's very skilled."
