Radio Star chef Sam Kim revealed behind-the-scenes details of the intense mind games he played with fellow chefs while filming the Netflix variety show Culinary Class Wars.
On the 28th broadcast, the MBC variety show 'Radio Star' was presented as a "sweet and savory pals" special featuring Jung Ho-young, Sam Kim, Kim Junsu and Jeong Seon-ah.
Sam Kim opened up about the strict confidentiality clauses that were thoroughly observed among the Culinary Class Wars participants. In particular, he expressed a pleasant sense of betrayal he felt toward fellow chefs with whom he had been close, including Jung Ho-young.
Sam Kim recalled, "Actually, even before filming, the Chef & My Fridge chefs were mentioned a lot. So I casually asked, 'Did you get a call?' and everyone waved their hands and said they hadn't gotten one."
But when Sam Kim arrived at the set on the day of filming, he was stunned. He said, "I opened the set door on the first day and walked in, and the people who said they weren't going were all sitting there," which had the studio erupting in laughter. The chefs' espionage—perfectly acting to hide their participation—was exposed on site.
Jung Ho-young, who also appeared on the show, testified that the production team enforced strict secrecy. Jung Ho-young added, "We absolutely couldn't tell anyone about appearing," and "the production team that informed us of the revival warned, 'If this leaks to someone, we will cancel the revival,' so we couldn't even tell our families," making clear the severe security measures that kept the cast silent.
