In "Culinary Class Wars 2," the monk Seonjae appeared, and this time he meets viewers again with "The Chefs of the Temple Kitchen."
Recently, Wavve released the main poster for the new variety show "The Chefs of the Temple Kitchen," previewing a "feast of flavors" from six master temple-cuisine chefs representing Korea.
"The Chefs of the Temple Kitchen," exclusively released on Wavve, follows six master temple-cuisine monks as they prepare and share offerings (gongyang), illuminating the philosophy and meaning of practice contained in the food in this food reality program. Beyond a simple cooking show, it will highlight the philosophy and spiritual practice embodied in the food and deliver a deep resonance to viewers.
Among them are Seonjae, who ranked in the TOP7 as a "White Spoon" on "Culinary Class Wars: cooking class wars 2" (abbreviated as "Culinary Class Wars 2"), and Jeonggwan, who gained worldwide recognition through The Chef's Table, along with Gyeho, Jeokmun, Daean and Ugwan — six renowned master temple-cuisine chefs — gathering in one place and drawing strong interest even before the release.
In particular, Jeonggwan made headlines recently by confiding an episode involving the popular chef Son Jong-won. Son Jong-won showed Jeonggwan around his restaurant kitchen when Jeonggwan visited, creating a sense of familiarity. He also said, "I told the monk Merry Christmas and got scolded," adding humor. The gathering of master temple-cuisine monks including Jeonggwan and Seonjae through "The Chefs of the Temple Kitchen" raised anticipation.
The released main poster for "The Chefs of the Temple Kitchen" captures the presence of six master temple-cuisine chefs and the program's identity in a warm yet playful way, drawing attention. The six monks, each shown in different cooking motions and expressions, even evoke a sense of "cuteness," conveying both the craftsmen's deep skill and human warmth. Combined with a large cauldron and colorful vegetable illustrations, it intuitively expresses the simplicity and vitality of temple food and the meaning of "rice cooked together," completing the familiar and warm story of a temple kitchen where "practice" and "cooking" meet.
As glimpsed on the poster, in the main episodes of "The Chefs of the Temple Kitchen," six master temple-cuisine chefs gather for the first time to ingeniously reinterpret temple cuisine in line with the global "vegetarian" and "vegan" trends. From the process of naturally growing closer as they share their food philosophies to scenes where they showcase a diverse feast of flavors centered on traditional "jang" such as gochujang, soy sauce and doenjang, to moments when they warmly serve guests who came to connect with the world through temple food, the masters' "hand taste" combines into rich episodes promising a "taste explosion" food reality. All episodes will be released on Feb. 13.
