One year after the deaths of Hollywood veteran actor Gene Hackman and his wife, his Santa Fe home has come on the market and is expected to welcome a new owner in just 11 days.
On the 27th (local time), the Daily Mail reported that the large mansion of Gene Hackman in Santa Fe, New Mexico, switched to "pending" status 11 days after being listed. This means the buyer's offer was accepted, and only final procedures such as appraisal and inspection remain. The property was listed on the market through Sotheby's International Realty.
A real estate representative said the mansion's size, layout and location are outstanding, and its connection to a celebrity acts as a factor that drives up the price, noting there is sufficient demand despite the death history. In fact, industry insiders say it could exceed the initial listing price of about $6 million (Hanwha about 8 billion won).
Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, ended their lives at this home. The two were found dead last February at their home on Old Sunset Trail in the Hyde Park area of Santa Fe. Investigations concluded Hackman died of heart disease and complications of Alzheimer's disease, and Arakawa died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rodent-borne virus. The time of death was reported to have differed by about a week.
The house in question is a four-bedroom southwestern-style dwelling situated on about 6 acres. It sits on a hill overlooking Santa Fe's natural scenery and is also praised for being in a gated community separated from the outside. The house underwent a major remodel in the 1990s and was featured in Architectural Digest that same year.
However, at the time of death the interior of the house was cluttered with clothing, boxes and pet supplies, and traces of rodents were found in some outbuildings, adding to the sadness. Later, sheriff bodycam footage released showed a pet dog that would not leave the couple's side, touching many people's hearts.
Meanwhile, Gene Hackman is an actor who left a major mark on film history with works such as The French Connection, Unforgiven and the Superman series. He was nominated for the Academy Awards five times and won twice, and after retiring in the early 2000s he lived a quiet life in Santa Fe.
One year after death, and just 11 days. The final residence of an actor who defined an era will meet a new chapter.
