Former announcer-turned-broadcasters Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok have completed lawsuits seeking compensation from an alleged third party three years after their divorce.
On the 27th, the Family Court Division 2 of Jeju District Court delivered a ruling on the claim for damages for consolation money that Choi Dong-seok filed against Park Ji-yoon and person A, and the suit of the same nature that Park Ji-yoon filed against Choi Dong-seok's acquaintance B. However, the specific details of the ruling were not disclosed.
Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok married in 2009 and had a son and a daughter. Initially noted as an in-house couple of KBS announcers, they continued to draw attention after marriage as Park Ji-yoon remained active and Choi Dong-seok became the anchor of KBS' 9 p.m. News.
However, in October 2023 they split after 14 years of marriage. Because both Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok were active on social media, their separate daily lives with their children were publicly displayed, and they traded pointed remarks about each other. As a result, the divorce drew noisy attention.
In this process, in July 2024 Park Ji-yoon filed a claim for damages for consolation money against Choi Dong-seok's acquaintance B. In response, Choi Dong-seok filed a countersuit of the same nature against Park Ji-yoon and acquaintance A.
Both sides strongly denied the allegations as baseless. Choi Dong-seok's side said there was no illegal conduct during the marriage, and Park Ji-yoon's side also said there was no affair with another person during the marriage or the divorce proceedings.
Ultimately, the court consolidated Park Ji-yoon's and Choi Dong-seok's cases and proceeded jointly. The hearings had concluded in November last year. The protracted litigation that began with the divorce process has all been concluded after about three years.
Currently, custody and parental authority rest with Park Ji-yoon, and Choi Dong-seok has continued regular contact with the children through visitation rights. In addition, Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok have each continued their activities in the entertainment industry.
