Singer-songwriter Kwon Soon-woo, who has been active in Korea's rock music scene for nearly 30 years, will host a new program, "Kwon Soon-woo's Dawn Empathy," on TBS Radio FM 95.1 beginning Feb. 2.
"Kwon Soon-woo's Dawn Empathy" is a late-night music program that airs every day at 1 a.m. and provides a time to connect with listeners awake during the early hours through deeply curated selections and music stories focused on rock and folk.
Kwon Soon-woo has led the band as the vocalist of "Kwon Soon-woo Band" and for the past 30 years has consistently performed on stages centered on live clubs and venues in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Hongdae. Rather than following popular trends, he has concentrated on the intrinsic emotion and message of music, and he is a veteran musician who has earned the support of a devoted fan base.
This radio DJ endeavor is an attempt to expand his musical life, which has breathed with audiences on stage, in another direction. Centering on rock and folk and presenting music that spans past and present, he promises a warm and sincere broadcast suitable for the dawn hours.
Ahead of his first show, Kwon Soon-woo said, "In the past you could often hear rock music on dawn radio, but those times have diminished a lot these days," and added, "I want to try to carry that current forward once more." He added, "I hope TBS returns to normal soon, and I ask for everyone's interest and support."
Kwon Soon-woo's "Kwon Soon-woo's Dawn Empathy," in which the musician takes on a new challenge as a radio DJ, will air its first broadcast at 1 a.m. on Feb. 2 on TBS Radio FM 95.1.
