Former announcer-turned-broadcaster Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok brought to an end the legal disputes that continued after their divorce, closing a long-running conflict after about three years.
On the 27th, the Family Litigation Division 2 of Jeju District Court delivered a ruling on Choi Dong-seok's claim for damages for alienation of affection filed against Park Ji-yoon and Mr. A, and on the similar suit Park Ji-yoon filed against Choi's acquaintance Mr. B. However, the specific details of the judgment were not disclosed.
The couple married in 2009 and had one son and one daughter, and were noted as a representative case of an in-house couple of KBS announcers who became spouses. After marriage, Park Ji-yoon continued her broadcasting activities, and Choi Dong-seok served as anchor of KBS' 9 p.m. news, with both maintaining active careers.
However, in October 2023, news of their breakup after 14 years of marriage emerged. Because both were active on social media, their post-divorce daily lives and time with their children were revealed, and suggestive posts and remarks surrounding these drew concentrated public attention. The divorce process also generated considerable noise and attracted public scrutiny.
The conflict later escalated into courtroom battles. In July 2024, Park Ji-yoon filed a suit seeking damages for alienation of affection against Choi Dong-seok's acquaintance Mr. B, and Choi Dong-seok also filed a countersuit against Park Ji-yoon and acquaintance Mr. A, initiating legal actions.
But both sides consistently drew a line regarding the related allegations. Choi Dong-seok's side said, "There was no illegal activity during the marriage," and Park Ji-yoon's side also rebutted, "There was no misconduct during the marriage period or the divorce proceedings."
The court eventually consolidated both cases for hearing, and the arguments concluded in November last year. With this ruling, the legal disputes between the two that stemmed from the divorce process have reached their final steps after about three years.
Custody and parental rights of the children are currently held by Park Ji-yoon, and Choi Dong-seok is reported to continue meeting the children regularly through visitation. Both have also continued their broadcasting activities and have returned to daily life.
With the lengthy legal dispute resolved, the relationship between the two who were once called an "announcer couple" has reached a new phase following legal closure.
