Group member of ASTRO and actor Cha Eun-woo's mother established the limited liability company A Corp., which Ganghwa County Office is confirmed to have conducted an on-site investigation of. The company is reported to have changed its registered address to Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the same day.
On the 28th, Ilgan Sports reported that Ganghwa County Office conducted an on-site inspection on the 26th of A Corp., which had its registered address at an eel restaurant located in Ganghwa County, Incheon. However, it was reported that no furnishings suitable for use as an office or facilities for performing work were found at the site.
Also, A Corp. was processed as moving out of Ganghwa County on the day of the inspection, and an application to change the registered address to Gangnam District Office was received and reportedly processed administratively immediately. A Corp.'s current registered address is listed as Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Earlier, Cha Eun-woo underwent an intensive tax audit by the Seoul Regional Tax Service's Investigation Division 4 in the first half of last year on suspicions of tax evasion, and it was revealed that he was recently notified by the National Tax Service of an additional income tax assessment amounting to about 20 billion won, which has intensified the controversy. This is reported to be the largest additional assessment imposed on an entertainer to date.
In relation to this, Cha Eun-woo directly issued an apology on his SNS on the same day that the on-site inspection of A Corp. and the address change took place. He said, "I sincerely bow my head and apologize for causing concern and disappointment to many people due to the various recent matters related to me," and added, "As a citizen of Korea, I am deeply reflecting on and repenting my attitude toward the duty to pay taxes."
He also denied allegations that his enlistment was an act of evasion, saying, "Although I am currently serving in the military, it was not an intentional choice to avoid this controversy," and "I enlisted without being able to complete the tax investigation procedures because I could no longer postpone enlistment."
Cha Eun-woo's agency Fantagio said in a second official statement on the 27th, "The matters currently raised are at a stage where facts are being verified according to tax authorities' procedures," and added, "The artist and the agency are cooperating faithfully with the investigation, and if legal or administrative judgments become clear in the future, we will responsibly take necessary measures according to those results."
While the tax authorities' decisions and administrative procedures continue, the controversy surrounding Cha Eun-woo is expected to persist for the time being.<
