Singer and actress Uhm Jung-hwa opened up about experiencing "son favoritism" during her childhood.
On the 27th, a video titled "A one-night, two-day trip to Jecheon with my mother and younger brother Taewoong" was uploaded to the Umaizing Uhm Jung-hwa TV channel.
That day, Uhm Jung-hwa visited her hometown Jecheon with her mother and younger brother Uhm Taewoong. She said, "I'm on a trip. The three of us — my mother, my brother and I — are traveling very simply together for the first time in a while. Where are we going? Our hometown. We're going to Jecheon. I'm so excited," revealing her excitement.
She then said, "Before we arrived in Jecheon, did Taewoong tell us about a bulgogi restaurant?" referring to their destination, and Uhm Taewoong recalled, "There's that bulgogi we really used to eat when we were kids."
Then Uhm Jung-hwa threw a blunt comment, "Mom never gave it to me, she only gave it to you," which embarrassed Uhm Taewoong. Uhm Taewoong said, "No, that's not it. When you go to a restaurant, it's the bulgogi we ate when we were kids," and Uhm Jung-hwa shot back, "Right. When I was young, I never got to eat bulgogi at a restaurant — except you."
Uhm Taewoong defended himself, saying, "I also ate it at wedding halls," and Uhm Jung-hwa expressed hurt, "How much she loved her son. Our mother only packed meat in Taewoong's lunchbox. Later I found out when I washed the lunchbox. I will dig into every detail. How could she favor only the son like that?"
In response, Uhm Taewoong protested, "People say that, but it's not like we were given separate meat or anything," yet Uhm Jung-hwa conveyed her bitter feelings, "She even gave him bananas by himself and took only him to Seoul. That's how it was."
