Mnet dating reality show Love Catcher alumnus influencer Kim Jiyeon has signaled she will file for divorce from Lotte Giants pitcher Jeong Cheolwon, and remarks she said a shaman made about her in the past are drawing renewed attention.
Kim Jiyeon revealed last August on her YouTube channel Haru Jiyeon that she had had her fortune told by a shaman. She said at the time, "They said the shaman is very famous among brand CEOs you would recognize by name and people in fashion and business," and that she went to the shaman through an introduction from an acquaintance.
Kim Jiyeon recalled, "As soon as I gave my name and date of birth, the bell and liability were shaken and the shaman said, 'I hate people like you the most. You don't listen to others yet why did you come. You lived your life as you pleased,'" She added, "They said, 'You only talk well, right? If you're struggling you carry it all alone and you don't tell people around you,' and suddenly tears started streaming down my face," and "'You need to cry. You always hold back alone so you have to cry,' those words kept staying with me."
Kim Jiyeon said the experience made her reflect on her tendencies. She said, "Since I was young I've had a habit of blaming myself, so I rarely blame others and that lowered my self-esteem," and "The shaman said, 'You are the type who always realizes things too late and then blames and regrets yourself.' That felt true and hit me harder."
Those remarks have resurfaced recently alongside the divorce feelings Kim Jiyeon revealed on social media. Kim Jiyeon explained the background of her decision to file for divorce, saying, "I was going to endure it again for the sake of the child, but after a runaway and a one-sided lawsuit to obtain custody was filed, I thought I could no longer endure it as a mother."
She added, "Thanks to many people's support I am gaining strength. I will do my best to win this as my first and last time."
Meanwhile, Kim Jiyeon and Jeong Cheolwon held a belated wedding last December, but news of their breakup came about a month later, drawing sympathy. The two are reportedly currently undergoing legal procedures over custody.
