Tablo of the group Epik High opened up about his feelings after his father died during the "Tajinyo" incident.
On the 20th, Tablo recalled the time he sent his father off on his podcast.
He mentioned the "Tajinyo" incident, saying, "The second time I experienced death up close was, of course, when my father passed away."
He said of the incident, "I went through some scandal. I even hate calling it a 'scandal.' That was just people being malicious," and added, "During the so-called 'Tajinyo' incident, people shouted that I didn't attend Stanford, that all my academic credentials were fake, and that even my family was fake. This went on for years."
He continued, "Before all that happened, my father had been fighting cancer but had recovered, and when this incident broke out he was in remission. He was healthy when I became a musician. But toward the end of those terrible things that happened to me and my family, my father's condition worsened again, and as his illness deepened he passed away the very next morning."
Regarding his father's death, Tablo said, "I wasn't prepared. He went into shock and passed away within just a few hours. Neither my family nor I were ready for that farewell," adding, "I was of course completely broken. It wasn't simply because I lost my father, but honestly I felt that the public killed my father. It was murder. So I wasn't just sad; I was extremely angry at everyone who participated in that killing."
He added, "They probably still live as if they didn't commit such acts, but clearly it was no different from killing him. I was really angry, sad, and also confused."
Tablo also shared an anecdote from the funeral. He said he first laughed after his father's death because of jokes from colleagues who came to offer condolences, especially comedians, and said, "Something inside me felt relieved. They knew exactly what they were doing. They were older than me and had been through this experience many times, so they knew precisely what remedy I needed at that moment. This is the power of humor in dark times."
Meanwhile, the "Tajinyo incident" refers to the online community "Tajinyo" (We demand the truth from Tablo), founded in 2010, which accused Tablo of fabricating his academic background by claiming he did not graduate from Stanford University. Even after Stanford confirmed Tablo's graduation, the attacks continued, and Tablo sued those involved for defamation.
