Actor Song Ji-ho played a flavor-enhancing supporting role that added to the drama To My Beloved Thief. Song Ji-ho captured viewers' attention by vividly portraying the character's servility and recklessness with his characteristic sly acting.
In episode 7 of KBS2 To My Beloved Thief, which aired on the 24th, Hong Dae-il first appeared serving as a retainer of the Im family at a protest by students in front of the palace gate. Following the instructions of Im Seung-jae (played by Do Sang-woo) to protect the family's standing, he incited public opinion and shouted, "There has never been a case of royalty taking the thief's side," and Song Ji-ho excellently depicted Hong Dae-il's complex psychology of parasitizing power while still asserting his pride.
In particular, unaware of Yi-yeol's (played by Moon Sang Min) identity, the scene in which he scolds and misunderstanding the grand prince Yi-yeol as a thief in front of Hong Min-jik's house, the reckless act of grabbing his arm while calling him "this brat," and the way he speaks ill of the grand prince and Gil-dong in front of Yi-yeol elicited tense laughter from viewers. Also, his duality of shrinking endlessly before Im Sa-hyung (played by Choi Won-young) and Im Seung-jae while raising his voice outside the palace added both tension and satirical humor to the drama.
Also in episode 8, Hong Dae-il appeared stopping Hong Eun-jo (played by Nam Ji-hyun) from preventing her returning father Hong Min-jik (played by Kim Seok-hoon) from striking his own arm with a cane. Hong Dae-il restrained his remorseful father and blamed Eun-jo, who he said made the situation, saying, "I'll tame her even now," and took Eun-jo away.
Song Ji-ho perfectly expressed Hong Dae-il's helpless behavior toward Eun-jo, who asked him to punish her and handed him the cane, torn between resentment and affection, and boosted immersion by tossing the cane aside and leaving while shouting, "Pathetic... I'm sick of it!," showcasing his chops as a scene-stealer.
In the following scene, Hong Dae-il drank irresponsibly at a kisaeng house with Im Jae-i (played by Hong Min-gi), saying, "I thought my brother would pull the rope down for me to enter the court, but our father ruined everything," and lamented. Regarding Eun-jo's move to the Hyeminseo, Hong Dae-il voiced both worry and regret, saying, "Don't worry about others and worry about me like that," and Song Ji-ho portrayed Hong Dae-il's childish behavior, which cannot be hated, with charming acting.
Meanwhile, while Song Ji-ho's passionate acting illuminates the drama, KBS2's weekend drama To My Beloved Thief airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m.
