Announcer Park Hyo-jin mentioned Um Ji-in as her pursued image.
On the 25th episode of KBS 2TV's "The boss's ears are donkey ears," the first review meeting was revealed along with the appearances of KBS's 51st class of rookie announcers.
That day, the KBS public recruitment 51st class announcers, chosen for the first time in three years, were Lee Sang-chul, Park Hyo-jin and Shim Soo-hyun. The three began introducing themselves to Han Seong-chul, and seeing this, Jun Hyun-moo confessed, "First, I expect conflict between announcers Lee Sang-chul and Kim Jin-woong. I also came in with a target. I was Han Suk-Joon, Kim Hyun-wook."
At that time, Han Seong-chul asked the rookies why they might have been able to pass, and Shim Soo-hyun revealed, "I think it's honesty. I was asked, 'Did you watch a lot of TV when you were young?' and I said my parents wouldn't let me watch when I was young, so I didn't watch much. It may be an emotional factor, but I think they highly valued my honesty." Park Hyo-jin mentioned "intellectual charm" and said she was an alumna of Seoul National University like announcer Kim Jin-woong. She said she majored in German language and literature and is fluent in German, and even did a German self-introduction on the spot.
When asked about their talents, Lee Sang-chul immediately started TWS's "Angtal challenge," which spread through the studio and led from Yang Jun-hyuk to Jun Hyun-moo to continue the angtal challenge, bringing laughter. Kim Jin-woong, looking at Park Hyo-jin, said, "She looks like NewJeans' Min-ji. Maybe she can be active in many fields," and Park Hyo-jin demonstrated her talent of peeling tangerine skin on the spot. Park Hyo-jin's performance, completing shapes from an elephant to a snail, received praise in the studio.
As the review meeting officially began, senior managers including the director general, deputy minister and head of team, as well as senior announcers, attended in large numbers. Park Cheol-gyu and Heo Yoo-won, who were the winners of the last review meeting, also sat in their seats looking nervous. Watching the special live broadcast video that aired on Dec. 31 last year, Jun Hyun-moo, after watching Park Hyo-jin's hosting, criticized, "I don't know what she said, and there was no impact," and Yang Jun-hyuk praised, "For a rookie, that's excellent."
Senior colleagues continued their criticisms. Um Ji-in said, "It was my first time seeing someone do live broadcasting. This was a program aired at midnight, but while others broadcast calmly, she alone felt like a morning show. She stood out from the very beginning," and Park Cheol-gyu said, "She may have been nervous for her first broadcast, but there was too much force in her voice," mentioning the tone and manner appropriate for the broadcast.
The seniors also said her camera eye contact was awkward, and criticized that her expression was clichéd. In particular, Um Ji-in said, "As a strength, you said you are the youngest announcer born in the 21st century, but I can't feel that on screen. The liveliness unique to rookie announcers is not visible at all. It feels like she's imitating the typical announcer seniors we imagine."
When the studio reacted against Um Ji-in's criticism, he added, "It feels like someone in their early 20s acting like they're in their 30s," and Jun Hyun-moo said, "If you look, she does it with a fresh 24-year-old feeling, right? Then Park Hyo-jin is an announcer. You can't do it like that, people will say." Um Ji-in agreed with a smile and applauded, and Jun Hyun-moo lamented, "There is no escape. If you act young, they complain you acted young. I said she lacks gravity."
Announcer Park Hyo-jin worried that her pursued image, "maturity," might not suit her in light of the seniors' criticisms, and told the production team, "My pursued image is senior Um Ji-in, but they said it looks old, so I think I need to think about it." At that time, in the released footage of Um Ji-in's rookie announcer days, Jun Hyun-moo and Kim Sook laughed, saying, "What is this, a video from the '70s," and "She's exactly like my mother. She's really old-fashioned."
