Singer Yoo Yeol revealed the behind-the-scenes story behind his debut song "As You Are Now."
On the 24th, which was yesterday, Yoo Yeol appeared as a guest on MBN (MBN) Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night and announced his return to broadcasting after seven years. Entering the opening by singing himself, Yoo Yeol said, "Since this is a rare opportunity to greet people, I thought greeting them with a song was the courtesy of a singer."
On the broadcast that day, Yoo Yeol recalled the time as he sang his debut song "As You Are Now" again. He said, "The college song festival stage from 40 years ago briefly came to mind," and added, "At that time, as now, the piano was played by composer Ji Seong-cheol."
When asked about the lyrics of the song, he answered with a laugh. Yoo Yeol said, "I would have talked more specifically if it were before marriage," and explained, "The protagonist of this song is not my wife." He added, "My wife knows that as well," and wrapped up his remarks.
When Kim Ju-ha asked, "Was the song written thinking of a specific person?", Yoo Yeol laughed it off, saying, "It's more dangerous because it's someone I never dated." Rather than excessive interpretation, he calmly conveyed the circumstances when the song was created.
Yoo Yeol also introduced his long-standing relationship with composer Ji Seong-cheol. The two met while working part-time during college and became musical partners, and "As You Are Now" was born that way as well. Regarding the distribution of copyright royalties, he said, "I wrote the lyrics and my friend composed the music, so it's half and half."
Having overcome pulmonary fibrosis and a lung transplant surgery and returned to the stage, Yoo Yeol calmly unfolded the time, people and music stories related to a song on the broadcast that day. "As You Are Now" remained a song that explained his present even after 40 years.<
