Actor Park Jihoon revealed the casting backstory.
On the 23rd, a video titled "Wang Sa-nam chatting with the storytellers and mingling" was uploaded to the YouTube channel "Channel Fifteen Night."
Director Jang Hang-jun, who directed the film "The Man Who Lives With the King," revealed the casting story for the role of Danjong. He said, "While I was agonizing over the role of Danjong, someone told me to watch the drama 'Weak Hero.' The moment I watched it I thought, 'That kid (Park Jihoon) is Danjong. It's him.'"
About Park Jihoon, he explained, "The frail image is good, but we needed strong energy. Above all, I felt an ability to conceal that energy in a way not befitting his age."
Then producer Na Young-seok asked, "How did you feel when you first received the script?" Park Jihoon confessed, "Honestly, it felt very heavy. I doubted my acting a lot and wondered if I could portray this page of history. Could I fathom Danjong's heart? My shoulders felt so heavy."
He went on, "I agonized a lot, but then the director said, 'You must be Danjong.' Hearing him say that made me decide to appear in the film."
Director Jang Hang-jun laughed, "You must be him, you must lose weight," and Park Jihoon recalled, "At that time I was on vacation. I was eating well and so on," remembering a slow season.
Park Jihoon reportedly lost as much as 15kg immediately after being cast in the film. Director Jang Hang-jun said, "At the next meeting he arrived shockingly thinner."
