Actor Oh Yoon-ah recalled the difficult moments of raising her son with developmental disabilities.
On the 23rd, a video titled "Special needs school Milal School congratulatory graduation" was uploaded to the Oh! Yoon-ah channel.
That day, Oh Yoon-ah attended her son Min-yi's special school graduation ceremony with her older sister and mother. When the graduation ceremony began and it was time to present certificates, the production staff asked, "Does Min-yi have any awards to receive?" and Min-yi confessed, "No. Except for the diploma. Maybe," adding, "I especially can't get perfect attendance awards."
Oh Yoon-ah's older sister said, "Earlier I was waiting in the car and the father (guardian) came looking very neat, but then he was grabbing by the collar again. I asked, and the father grabbed him by the collar (and dragged him). But the child was smiling," conveying the harsh realities of caregiving.
In response, Oh Yoon-ah said, "It was pretty bad in sixth grade. In fifth and sixth grade, the kids really struggle. They can't control their emotions. (Min-yi) was okay in middle school, but in the first and second years of high school it was total hell," she revealed.
When asked about Min-yi's elementary school days, Oh Yoon-ah's older sister said, "Around age 7, when people pass by. It's a stranger but he just bites. So I..." and she became choked up and welled up with tears.
Oh Yoon-ah said, "Suddenly, though he hadn't done it before, in the second year of high school when we went to Everland he grabbed a passing girl's hair," and added, "We apologized, we were contacted and paid money," recounting the harrowing moment.
After receiving the diploma, Oh Yoon-ah said, "They grow very rapidly starting at age 20. So there are suddenly many friends who begin speaking. It's the period when they absorb all the activities. So our children have more vision after age 20. You can have big hopes," expressing hope.
Then a writer said, "It's much easier than when we first did 'Pyeonstorang' and my clothes don't get torn anymore.." describing Min-yi's growth. In response, Oh Yoon-ah said, "The writers' clothes all got torn. Writer Sumin also had her hair pulled," recounting the intense scene.
Next, when the donation presentation proceeded, Oh Yoon-ah said, "When our Min-yi gets a salary he should donate too. If he gets a job we'll deliver scholarships. In Song-min's name. If Min-yi gets a job (through swimming)," revealing her donation plans.
After the graduation ceremony ended, Oh Yoon-ah said, "Our Min-yi graduated today so the graduation ceremony ended safely. Min-yi worked hard. Because he had to attend school we suddenly moved to Gwangju, so our mother, who drove for a long time there, worked very hard. Our Min-yi also worked hard so he is always tired and slept a lot in the mornings, but he was scolded a lot yesterday. He is forcing himself not to sleep today. He is stabbing me," she said.
She added, "(In the future) he will open another life, so please cheer him on a lot, and our Milal School friends worked so hard. We are very grateful to the teachers who worked hard, and we were very thankful to be able to greet our principal together since it was his last term. Also, our Min-yi grew a lot at this school. He grew and learned a lot, and through each and every teacher's severe teaching and love he really got much better, so I am very thankful. Please continue to love Milal School a lot and support our Min-yi as well. Thank you," she said, offering her thanks.
